Goodbye, 2012! Welcome 2013! As we move into the new year, many of us like to choose a ritual or a journal exercise to reflect on the old year or set goals for the new one. Some people suggest choosing a word to embody our hopes and plans for the new year. Others like to make an image or mood board.

One thing I like to do is reflect back on the years that mark the ten year intervals of the new year. So as 2013 dawns, I’m reflecting about what was happening in 2003, 1993, 1983, etc. Sometimes patterns emerge and sometimes not, but it’s an interesting way to think about themes or images the new year may bring. Try it and see what it brings up for you.

And let’s all celebrate the good, grieve the sad, let go of the difficult and re-commit ourselves to our messy, wonderful creative lives. Happy New Year!
